UC awarded Purple Star again for Veterans Programs & Services

The University of Cincinnati’s Collegiate Purple Star recognition has been renewed. The designation is awarded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, with eligibility determined by the Ohio Purple Star Advisory Board. UC was in the first cohort of Collegiate Purple Star awardees that received the designation in May 2022.

University of Cincinnati researchers, in collaboration with end users in the community, have received a $200,000 grant from Paralyzed Veterans of America to design a user-centered, easy-to-use assistive device to help restore hand grasping motions for people with spinal cord injuries/diseases.

Chelsea Lovelace, manager of cyber threat intelligence at leading defense contractor RTX, didn't always know what she wanted to do. Grappling with family tragedy, she entered community college after high school, but upon visiting University of Cincinnati, she fell in love with the campus. Today, with an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and a master's in IT—both from UC—she's excelled in roles with the National Guard, Cincinnati Police Department and now in the corporate world.

CCM alumna Taylor Fleshman joined "The President's Own" United States Marine Band as the harpist in July 2023. A Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps., Fleshman's role as the Marine Band's harpist includes being a featured soloist when the ensemble performs at the White House and in annual concert tours across the country.
